Service-type ranges: direct cremation $1,850–$3,500, traditional cremation $5,500–$9,000, traditional burial $8,000–$15,000. Cemetery plot pricing varies enormously by state and cemetery (NSW metropolitan plots can exceed $20,000 for premium positions); we use a state-average reference. Reference figures as at 1 January 2026.
Two key things to know: (1) Always get 2–3 written itemised quotes — funeral pricing is opaque and varies dramatically between providers, with $5,000+ swings common for the same service. (2) Independent family-owned providers (those not part of the InvoCare or Propel corporate groups) are typically 20-40% cheaper for equivalent service.
